Villivakkam Reservoir Needs Attention

The large Villivakkam Reservoir was  created in 1930. The Villivakkam Reservoir water was used as the major drinking water source for the nearby localities till 1950.

Today the water from the reservoir  is used by the Southern Railway for washing purposes in its workshops.

Mr.K.Ramadoss, President of North Chennai District Exnora said that  the large water body, which is also known as the ICF Lake, needs better care and attention.

The Villivakkam reservoir needs  rejuvenation. The reservoir came into existence during 1930s and treated water from the filtration unit was supplied to nearby colonies till 1950s. The water has been regarded as unfit for drinking purposes as the lake was polluted.

The  waterbody needs to be maintained properly as it served as a groundwater recharge to the neighbouring areas. Measures to beautify the lake also needs to be undertaken by the Southern Railway officials.
