The new owner merely needs to accept the cost of vaccinations of their pets (the puppies have been given 7-in-1 vaccinations in advance) and will be given a veterinary card that records this vaccination and can be used to track the pet's immunizations in future.
The photograph is by Sonaal bangera. Eighteen puppies and kittens found homes at last month's event and is proof of the growing popularity of shelter pet adoption.
"We are thrilled to report that these days, when someone thinks of getting a pet, they are turning to animal shelters and taking home rescued animals, instead of going to dog traders who import breeds that struggle with our harsh climate", says Sathya Radhakrishnan, Honorary Secretary, Blue Cross of India.
"Apart from being the compassionate choice, this is also a practical decision as Indian dogs are quite easy to maintain- their fur coats are not that thick, plus they tend to have a natural resistance to illness due to their native origin". The event will take place on June 5th, 2011 (Sunday) at CP Arts Centre, Eldams Road, Alwarpet, Chennai 18 between 3 pm and 6 pm. For details, call 9884570239.
