Work on beautification of the subway on Nelson Manickam Road has been done with the pasting of murals. The project was completed by the Chennai Corporation.Walls on either side of the vehicular subway has been covered with the Italian mosaic glazed tiles.
The walls of the subway have been plastered with cement on which an adhesive is being spread so that the small tiles could be affixed. The Corporation also plans to renovate pedestrian subways and footpaths in various other places. The Chennai Corporation plans paint and renovate more vehicular subways in the city.
As part of its city-beautification plan, the Chennai Corporation began the wall painting along the subway near the Reserve Bank of India on Rajaji Salai. The subway, built by the state highways department in 1966, is 450 m long and 15 m wide and has exclusive lanes for pedestrians and cyclists.
