The photograph shows the Chennai City Traffic Policemen distributing pamphlets to the two wheelers at Perambur, near the Railway Station and advising them to start wearing helmets for their safety. It is reported that wearing of helmet has been made compulsory for two-wheeler riders in Chennai from 28th May 2011.
The city Traffic Police decision to make wearing helmets mandatory is aimed at reducing the fatalities in road accidents, which have been on the increase. The city traffic police conducts several road safety awareness campaigns for motorists.
