The introduction of modern footpath facility for pedestrians in Chennai city roads is in deed a welcome. But pedestrians want more safe walkways across the city roads. Everywhere across the city residents complain of poorly maintained footpaths.
“An example of a badly maintained footpath is evident at Anna Nagar Second Avenue, near 12th Main Road. Pedestrians in the city have launched associations to highlight the importance of footpaths to local authorities, who have responsibility for maintaining rights of way within their area.
Strict enforcement of rules preventing encroachment of footpaths by vendors and shop owners, laying good pavements that would ensure safety of pedestrians in the need of the hour. It is reported that at busy traffic junctions and along one-way roads which have a high flow of traffic, there are either no facilities or poorly planned facilities for pedestrians.
