The new additional Aminjikarai bridge on Poonamallee High Road is nearing completion. All the encroachments on Poonamallee High Road at Aminjikarai were removed along the stretch where a bridge road would be widened.
The Highways Department planned to construct a new bridge over the Cooum near the junction of Poonamallee High Road and Nelson Manickam Road to ease congestion along the Poonamallee High Road stretch near Ampa Mall. The new additional bridge and the widened road would ease congestion on the stretch frequently used by heavy vehicles.
