Green Attraction In The City

Semmozhi Poonga is the newest green attraction in the city, literally meaning the Classical Language Park, is the all new botanical garden established by the Horticulture Department of the Government of Tamilnadu, on 24th November 2010. 

 The location of Sem Mozhi Poonga Chennai is near the Anna flyover in Chennai. Semmozhi Poonga garden Chennai is sited in the Cathedral Road-Anna Salai junction, just opposite to the American Consulate, on the erstwhile Drive-in Woodlands Hotel. 

The total area of the Semmozhi Poonga botanical garden is more or less 20 acres, while the cost to set up this park was more than 80 million rupees. There are lots of biological specimens in Semmozhi Poonga Chennai.

More than 500 species of plants and 80 trees were already there while this park was being developed, and some of them are as aged as 100 years. The land was handed over to the government and steps were taken to build up the Semmozhi Poonga Classical Language Park in Chennai. 

 The garden also hosts a wide number of exotic herbal species. There is also a Cascade garden at the fag end of the park. There is an arch near the entrance plaza which stands as a unique feature of the botanical park. A vertical garden, with an inbuilt irrigation and drain system for easy maintenance, this section is 22 feet long and 14 feet, and it adds to the scenic beauty of Semmozhi Poonga greatly. 

There is also a high monolithic structure, with a height of about ten feet, with ‘Semmozhi Poonga’ carved upon, for welcoming the visitors. Chennai:
