The first indigenised train for Chennai Metro Rail Limited was recently handed over to Dr. Sudhir Krishna, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, and Chairman CMRL in a function held at Alstom factory. As part of the package with CMRL for supply of trains, Alstom, who are the manufacturer, have set up the factory in Sri City.
The factory undertakes quality control and testing of metro trains to ensure that they are cleared for dispatch. MD, CMRL Thiru. Pankaj Kumar Bansal, IAS, Alstom, President Thiru. Henri Poupart Lafarge, Vice President Dominic Pouliquen, addressed the gathering. The trains will be transported through road to depot at Koyambedu. This is the first train delivered. Also during the occasion, a model train was handed over to Chennai Metro Rail Chairman.
