A training programme on community mental health for the community differently abled welfare facilitators was inaugurated on 4th January 2014 at SCARF-Schizophrenia Research Foundation (India), North Main Road, Anna Nagar West Extension.
The training programme was inaugurated by Dr.C.K.Gariyali,IAS, (Rtd) in the presence of Dr.R.Tara, SCARF Director.
The programme is supported by Pudhu Vaazhvu Project, Tamil Nadu Government. D.Kotteswara Rao, SCARF Mental Health Center stated that the training programme is aimed at removing the myths and misconceptions of mental illness and to create health awareness.
The training programme will train field facilitators to detect mental disorders at the grass root level and perform simple interventions.
More than 30 participants are taking part in the training programme which is on till 10th January 2014.Tamil Nadu Pudhu Vaazhvu Society has been established by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department with assistance from World Bank to reduce poverty of the differently abled, vulnerable people and Tribal communities.
