Metro Elevated Viaduct Along Alandur Road

The construction work of the Chennai Metro Rail elevated viaduct is going on along Alandur Railway Station Road. In the future, metro rail is likely to give the passengers a bird’s eye view of the city’s skyline as it goes over the Kathipara junction in Guindy. Tracks for trains from Koyambedu to St Thomas Mount are at present getting built over the Kathipara grade separator.

This is going to be the highest point of elevation for the metro corridor anywhere in the city. The second highest will be at Vadapalani where the Koyambedu-Ashok Nagar stretch of the elevated line will travel above a flyover that is planned across Vadapalani junction.

Metro rail contractors have started to build pillars in the space between the clover-shaped wing on the Porur side and of the grade separator. Work on the Alandur station by GST road near the Alandur municipality office is progressing fast.

Work on the elevated corridor from Koyambedu to Guindy via Ashok Nagar, and on 100 Feet Road is also underway.  Trains will be operated along the 13km Koyambedu-St Thomas Mount section when it opens.

Trial runs will be conducted as soon as works are completed in the section. Hoisting, placing and welding of tracks are progressing fast on the viaduct between Koyambedu and Vadapalani. The stretch will serve as a showpiece for the project and trains are likely to be operated on the elevated line, hopefully by the end of 2013.
