The Chennai Metro Rail elevated corridor between Koyambedu and St.Thomas Mount is fast progressing. During the past few months various station development and improvement work has been going on at the elevated rail stations situated along 100 Feet Road.Chennai Metro Rail is an upcoming rapid transit system in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
There are eight elevated stations along 100 Feet Road, namely Koyambedu, CMBT, Arumbakkam, Vadapalani, Ashok Nagar-KK Nagar, SIDCO, Alandur (Interchange) and St. Thomas Mount. The Phase I of the project consisting of two corridors is under construction.
For the first time, a cantilever bridge technology will be used for connecting the metro rail corridor across the Guindy Kathipara grade separator. This method is used so that there will not be any hindrance to the traffic movement across the grade separator.
The elevated viaduct from Nehru statue to 100 Feet road is nearing completion. More over works are actively going on in laying Chennai Metro Rail tracks along 100 Feet Road stretch. Hopefully, the first phase of Chennai Metro Rail Project is to start from coming January 2014 between Koyambedu and St. Thomas Mount.
