The treating team in psychiatry is
incomplete and significantly handicapped if there is no family member to take
care of the patient. This is the most vital link in psychiatric management more
so in developing countries like India. SCARF has always given as much priority
to caregivers needs as to patients needs. Regular sessions for different types
of caregivers are organised at monthly basis. Scarf has always encouraged
family members.
In an attempt to acknowledge the efforts of unsung heroes
SCARF- Schizophrenia Research Foundation instituted the SCARF MAITRI AWARDS on
World Schizophrenia Day 2011. The award is a token of appreciation and
salutation to all those who are involved in taking care of persons with mental
illness. Caregivers are regularly honoured by SCARF every year.
Caregivers who
served and cared for persons with mental illness were awarded during a function
held on 29-06-2013 at SCARF premises
located at R-7A North Main Road, Anna
