Anna Nagar Roads Need Usable Footpaths

A few pavements in Anna Nagar are unusable and unfriendly. They are either encroached upon, broken or covered with stones and debris.

Other major encroachments that block free movement of pedestrians along footpaths are government properties like junction boxes, garbage bins and streetlights. Chennai Corporation proposes to improve pedestrian facilities along Anna Nagar roads. Chennai Corporation has started building granite pavements.

These new granite pavements are individually designed to suit a specific road and be disabled-friendly. The project was launched by Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy. The project has been launched with 'Chennai City Connect', an NGO that deals with transport and urban planning, as the monitoring agency has many architects from the city on the design board. Chennai Corporation sources stated that new footpaths will be paved with granite stones soon at Anna Nagar, Mogappair and Villivakkam.
