The Department of Environment, Government of Tamil Nadu have selected Mr,G.Thangaraj, Teacher from Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School, Nungambakkam for the Environmental State Award on "Environmental Awareness & Education " category for his outstanding performance in Environmental awareness among students and the general public.
This prestigious award with a citation was presented to Mr.Thangaraj and others by Shri K.T.Pachaimal, Hon'ble minister for forest, in the presence of Chennai Mayor Saidai S.Duraisamy , in a grand function at Guindy Children's Park during the World Forest Day celebrations on 21.03.2013. The Honble minister and Mayor appreciated the performances of the awardees. Mr.G.Thangaraj who started his career as teacher in 1995 in Govt. Hr.Sec.School.Pazhaverkadu has served 14 years in Purasawalkam Chennai (Corporation) H S School and now working in Nungambakkam School.
He was awarded Solar Energy Service Award in 2005 by Group Director, ROMG,IGCAR, Kalpakkam & Prestigious Dr.Radhakrishnan Best Teacher Award in 2011.He conducts and coordinates lot of awareness programs on water,vermi Compost, Medicinal Plants Solar Energy devices with the help of resource persons.
He is now given additional charge of Chennai East District Coordinator, NGC,by dept of Environment supervising and monitoring 135 schools. He is greeted by HM Mrs.Elizabeth , Scientist K.Varatharajan and eminent scholars from Federation of Science Clubs of Tamil Nadu(FSCT),a leading science popularizing organisation.
