The United Forum of Nanganallur Welfare Associations met,
Mr.Apoor Varma, MD, Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board over
the inordinate delay in commissioning of drinking water project costing
Rs.64.39 cores, sanctioned under JNNURM scheme.
The project was commenced in the year 2009 and the contract was awarded
to M/s.Viswas Infrastructure under the supervision and control of CMWSSB.The
project was to be completed by 30/11/2011 and in spite of bringing to the
notice of the concerned authorities, the project is being delayed
indefinitely.
Members of various welfare associations, numbering 35 are much
agitated over the delay, as the relaying of road works costing Rs.100/= crore
was already sanctioned by the Corporation of Chennai, which could not be
carried-out as the road cutting work is involved in giving House Service
Connection and in some cases sub-main has to be laid.
Besides, only 70% of the work is completed
with regard to the construction of 7 new Over heads. The Managing Director,
CMWSSB said review is being made to expedite the project and he was positive to
indicate that by April 2013, the work would be completed. The delegation
consisted of KS Raaghavan, K Pechimuthu, M V Mukundhan and V Rama Rao impressed
upon the CMWSSB to complete the work as early as possible.
