New High Wall Along Otteri Nullah

Construction of a new high wall is in progress along the Otteri Nullah stretch at Mullai Nagar, Anna Nagar near the bridge on Thirumangalam road. 

The residents of Thendral Colony stated that the open canal needs to be cleaned regularly and also covered so as to prevent health hazard and environmental pollution.  

Otteri Nullah is an east-west waterway which runs north Chennai before meeting the Buckingham Canal at Basin Bridge. 

The waterway remains heavily polluted in spite of many government efforts to clean it up over the years. In the wake of the floods, the local administration began investigations into widening the stream to prevent recurrence of such problems in the future. Public Works Department has officially announced that it had started work on desilting and cleaning the water canal.
