Cables continue to pose danger to pedestrians along 4th
Avenue Shanthi Colony. Every day thousands of pedestrians walk past this spot
unknowing about the dangerous cables.
The electrocution incidents of people
during the rainy season has once again exposed the danger of exposed power
cables pose. Several people have lost their lives in similar incidents in the
past.
All across the city, cables sticking out of junction boxes
and broken electric poles become deadly traps during the rains when huge
stretches of roads become waterlogged and commuters are unaware of the hidden
dangers. Pedestrians should be more vigilant at night.
TNEB officials should
follow safety measures while laying cables in many areas. Cables should be at a
depth so as to avoid risks of electrocution, but few cables are found
obstructing the road space.
