International Day for Elders is
observed on 1st October every year. On December 14th,
1990, United Nations General Assembly Voted to establish 1st October
as world Elders Day. Elders Day is celebrated by raising awareness about issues
affecting the elders.
It is also a day to appreciate the contribution that
senior citizens made to the society. International Elders Day is dedicated to
honour, respect and care for elders.
As part of worlds Elders Day celebrations,
Probus Club (Chennai) will conduct many competitions and events including chess,
carom and other tournaments for senior citizens aged 50 and above on 16th
