Kitchen garden is primarily intended for continuous supply of fresh fruits, vegetables and homestead medicinal plants throughout the year. The high cost of and demand of fruits and vegetables can be circumvented by the kitchen gardening.
Apart from this medicinal plants grown in kitchen garden can cure certain human diseases. Family members residing in urban and rural areas can easily establish and maintain the kitchen garden.
It is mandatory to learn the art of maintaining the plants viz., watering, manuring and plant protection measures. July month is the right season to begin the crop for better performance and maximum productivity of crops.
In this context, one day training programme on “Kitchen Garden” will be conducted by the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Information and Training Centre, Wednesday (18-07-2012) between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm.The programme will be useful to house wives, farmers, entrepreneurs, youths, SHG, NGO’s and students, etc.
