Property tax paying has been made easy as Chennai corporation ties up with various banks in the city to collect property tax by cheque, DD or through ATM facility.
This new system was recently launched by Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy. In the presence of Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy, Corporation commissioner Vijay kumar an agreement was signed with senior officials from various banks to collect property tax as part of the scheme.
The banks are namely Indian Overseas Bank, Canara Bank, ICICI Bank, City Union Bank, Karur Vysa Bank, Axis Bank. Totally about 140 branches are given authority to collect Chennai corporation property tax. According to official Chennai Corporation sources the total number of tax payers in 200 wards is 10,71,914.
Mayor further stated that as per chief minister’s instruction and to make taxpaying easy, Chennai Corporation has implemented this new facility. There are 250 existing tax collectors in Chennai Corporation who will be engaged in collecting the unpaid tax amounts.
