Sailors from Tamil Nadu Sailing Association swept
away almost all the prizes at the Optimist Coastal National Championship 2012
which was held from 01 May to 04 May 2012 at Marve Sailing Club, Mumbai.
The four day event was held under the aegis of the Yachting Association of
India and the National Optimist Association of India. Twelve races were
completed in the four days in Mumbai's coastal waters that has strong tides
unlike the Chennai coast.
Vishnu Saravanan from Corps of Engineers
Sailing Club, Pune sailed very well and finished overall first in the
Championship. All the other top prizes were won by sailors from TNSA.Vishnu
Sujeesh secured overall Silver and trophy for 1 gun (first in a race).Janaki
Balachander got overall Bronze and Sea cadet Trophy for the best girl
sailor.Ruqayya Nasrulla won trophies for 2 guns.
Chitresh Tatha won Chowgule
Trophy.Mahesh Balachander also is a trophy winner. Navyn prabhakar
was awarded the Best youngest sailor trophy.
