The differently abled encounter a lot of difficulties in their efforts to move in public places. To overcome this MITHRA has launched a disabled friendly wheelchair van fitted with hydraulic lift and latest facilities. This project is implemented by sponsorship from Federation Emmaus Switzerland through Ecomwell, Chennai.
The 35th Anniversary celebrations of MITHRA were held on Monday 19th March 2012 with the launching of website and wheel chair user friendly van. His Grace Bishop Joshua Mar Ignathios, Diocesan Bishop, Mavelikara Kerala presided over the function.
The chief guest His Excellency Davil Holly, Australian Consul General for South India launched the website and spoke on the occasion. The guest of honour were Ms.Kannegi Packianathan, IAS, Secretary, Welfare for the Differently able, Government of Tamil Nadu and Mr.Jayaraj Devadas, Secretary, ECOMWEL, Chennai.
Rev.Fr. Gregory, Parish Priest of St.Lukes Church, Anna Nagar also participated in the function.The Madras Institute to Habilitate Retarded Afflicted (MITHRA), was founded by Sister Mary Theodore, an Australian Missionary. MITHRA, in Sanskrit, is an institution which serves the physically and mentally handicapped.
