The open huge canal along Seeyalam Street, Villivakkam is posing a serious health hazard to the residents.The open canal remains murky and smelly.
As the canal carrying sewage is polluted, the residents had to endure mosquito menace. Neglect by concerned authorities, and inflow of sewage water have turned the open canal at Villivakkam into a health hazard.
The canal, maintained by the Railway Board, was s meant for draining the rain water from the area into the Otteri-Nullah canal. It passes opposite the ICF headquarters and parallel to the Perambur Railway Hospital.
Today is become a sewage canal full of garbage and wild bushes. As a safety measure the canal need to be cleaned and covered with concrete slabs.
