Boon For motorists And Bane For Pedestrians

While one-way roads allow free vehicular movement, they end up being dangerous for pedestrians. A scene at 13th Main Road, Anna Nagar.

After the one way system, pedestrians find it very difficult to cross the Avenue roads and streets in Anna Nagar area.

People run across the road for safety to avoid the speeding vehicles. During peak hours in the morning and evenings the roads are very congested with continuous flow of traffic movement. Only at certain points

Traffic Policemen are found. At other points there is no Policemen to help. Pedestrians trying to cross the one-way road of fast-moving traffic has to face danger. However one-way lanes could be sometimes a discomfort of taking a long route to reach their destination.

Pedestrian safety is always given  low priority in Chennai. Anna Nagar has  witnessed yet another exercise at converting existing two-way traffic systems into one-ways to facilitate the Metro Rail work. This was to ensure smooth flow of traffic. But what of the pedestrian in Chennai? Who cares for him?
