Campaign On The Ill Effects Of Air Pollution

The harvest festival, Pongal was recently celebrated all over Tamil Nadu. Divya Hari stated that the city has  been witnessing pollution day in and day out, but on Bhogi day, the burning causes  so much that the whole city got covered by smoke.

Though the idea of Bhogi being nurturing new thoughts and ideas for the New Year, people find it easy to burn the plastic and other wastes on this day. It’s the duty of the youth to open the eyes of a pollution free atmosphere.

This is a small initiative by 20 young people from SOW-Save Our World in the Rani Anna Nagar housing board colony on 8th January, 2011.

They did a door to door campaign on the ill effects of pollution during Bhogi. This campaign was successful with the kind cooperation and permission granted by Mr.Aranganathan, the secretary of the colony.

They spoke to every resident in the colony and made them realize the impacts of burning waste in public places. This campaign covered around 322 houses in the colony and as a result the people dwelling there promised not to burn harmful wastes.
