The level of Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter (RSPM) at the traffic intersection on Poonamallee High Road near Kilpauk Medical College Hospital during the 24-hour period ended 6 a.m was 122 micrograms/cubic meter.

The permissible limit is 100micrograms/cubic meter. The level was checked by Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board located at Poonamallee High Road, Arumbakkam. Residents of Arumbakkam and Koyambedu are finding it hard to cope with the resulting rise in air pollution levels. The rapid increase in  vehicle population has resulted in high pollution levels on the roads of Chennai.
