Supportive Employers Honoured

Being productive and gainfully employed goes a long way in improving One’s self esteem and social well being. 

However it means much more to persons with chronic mental illnesses like schizophrenia. Employment for persons with schizophrenia has been a major problem. Several persons with schizophrenia who are on regular treatment are well employed in several capacities. 

Most of them function so well that their employers see no difference between them and other workers. SCARF has been lucky to associate with many such employers who have given an  opportunity for persons with mental illnesses to work in their organizations and return to productive. 

As a token of appreciation and an expression of gratitude, SCARF has instituted the SCARF – AADHAR Award to honour supportive employers. The award distribution was be held in TATA Memorial Auditorium in the SCARF premises at Anna Nagar, on 1st of November 2011. 

Mr.Ma Foi K.Pandiarajan, M.L.A. and Founder, CIOSA give away the awards in the presence of Dr.M.Sarada Menon, Founder SCARF and Director Dr.R.Thara. 

The event had encouraged several prospective employer to help and support for the cause of occupational rehabilitation for persons with chronic mental illnesses. 

Employing one person with mental disability in every organization will go a great way in removing misconceptions and reducing stigma attached to mental illnesses.
