ActionAid, Chennai (an anti-poverty agency) and Indian Community Welfare Organization (ICWO) in partnership with NDTV Hindu, 92.7 Big FM and Nippon Paints humbly invite you to be a part of The Wall-Street Campaign.
This campaign aims to create awareness among the general public with support from the media on the issues of the homeless. The inaugural event was held on 18th June 2011 at Anna Nagar, opposite to Tower Park, near Connexions Wall.Theme of the Campaign (Day 2)is Unsecure Living Spaces –It will be held at Elliots Beach, Besant Nagar from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Theme of the Campaign (Day 3) is Forgotten and Forlorn –It is at North Usman Road, Behind Joy Allukas.
Theme of the Campaign (Day 4): Education a Distant Dream –It will be held at Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School, Harrington’s Road.Theme of the Campaign (Day 5): The invisible city makers to be held at Lions Blood Bank, Marshalls Road, Egmore.ActionAid survey in 2010 reveals that 38% of the families do not have ration cards. This figure was 69% in 2003. Tamil Nadu is the earliest state to have recognized the homeless as early as 1989-1990 in the survey conducted by Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA). It is also one of the few states to have specific housing programme for Homeless People.
