Environment Protection Awards presented

The Green Chariot Silver Award for Environment protection was presented to Great Lakes Institute of Management  a It is a premier Business school which built a 201,478 sq ft impact on the local environment and usage of natural resources. campus . It is the first Educational institution in India to have achieved LEED Platinum certification under LEED India NE version 2.0.

Great Lakes campus has many green features that directly contribute to the environment in terms of reduced energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, impact on the local environment and usage of natural resources.

The Institution has site sustainable features. Being a residential campus, travel requirement is eliminated. They have battery charging stations and 50% of car park is covered and walkways are shaded. Rainwater harvesting tanks have been provided to harvest 4130 cu.m per day.Water Efficiency is an integral part of the campus as water efficient fixtures have been installed.   

Low dual flush toilets, sensor based urinals and other flow fixtures have been selected to reduce water consumption by 32.52%.Energy efficiency measures such as insulated and high reflective roof, high performance glazing, aerocon block walls, efficient lighting design with day lighting and occupancy controls, energy efficient HVAC design including COP VRV systems.

CFC free refrigerants are used. Great Lakes has introduced a curriculum for global energy and environmental management degree in India to further promote sustainability and energy conservation concepts among students and future leaders. BIOTEC Bags was also awarded an award for its 100% biodegradable plastic bags conforms to EN 13432 standards of biodegradable plastic which will biodegrade within one year of contact with the soil in normal environment condition, 

No toxic residue is left behind. Unlike other bags made from starch etc, Botec bags have good strength, shelf life of two years, aesthetic look. Cost 30 to 40% more than virgin plastic bags. Chennai Airport, Sankara Netralaya, Sangeetha Hotels, KFC, Ponds Shoes, Fruit shop on Greams road, are some of the important customers and list is growing
