Vocational Training For Students


Under the aegis of Tamil Nadu Agriculture University (TNAU), Urban Horticulture Development Centre (UHDC) has organized 5 days vocational training for school children from 25/04/2011 to 29/04/2011 between 9.30 a.m to 1.30 p.m. 

Thirty three students in and around Chennai city had benefited in the above programme. The  topics were covered by the Dr.P.Santhi Balasubramanian, Professor and Head, Dr.A.Manjula, Associate Professor and Dr.M.Velmurugan, Assistant Professor of UHDC, Chennai. 

The topics taught to the students was on Kitchen gardening,Roof gardening,Bouquet making,Mushroom cultivation,Juice making,Chocolate making and Ice cream making.Certificate and booklets were issued to the participants in the last day of 29/04/2011. And also one sappling of Chekurmanis (Sauropus androgynus) a
multi-vitamin plant was given to each student for maintaining in nutrition garden at their home.

The evaluation revealed that the students acquired knowledge on Gardening, Bouquet making, Mushroom cultivation, Fruits and vegetable preservation, Chocolate and Ice cream making. The parents also felt that their children spent their summer holidays very useful at UHDC, Chennai.
