Stray cattle makes city roads risky

The stretch of Mount Poonamallee Road  linking  Guindy and Porur, the Arcot Road stretch and also parts of the East Coast Road in  Chennai is becoming increasingly risky with stray cattle sitting in the middle of the road and criss-crossing it. More over many motorists have had bad experiences after hitting  stray cattle lying across the road. Several motorists face risks while negotiating the stretch of East Coast Road  to avoid herds of cattle along the road. Unchecked cattle movement on  East Coast Road, Old Mahabalipuram Road and Grand South Trunk Road poses a serious danger to motorists and disrupts traffic. Many  accidents occur on these roads every month due to cattle on roads. The stray cattle menace is high in southern suburbs like Alandur, Pallavaram, Chromepet and Tambaram. It is a common sight to spot nearly a dozen cows darting across the GST Road. Besides causing accidents, they also block the heavy traffic on the highways.
