The Chennai Corporation Thiru Vi Ka Park in Shenoy Nagar, has been temporarily closed to facilitate construction of a Metro Rail underground station.
Construction of the station in the park is the only option to avoid acquisition of private land in the locality. Nehru Park on Poonamallee High Road and May Day Park in Chintadripet are the other parks where such stations will be constructed. The Chennai Corporation Thiru.Vi.Ka Park is required for the project and the station would come up in the centre of the park. After completion of the work, greenery would be restored.
To facilitate smooth construction of the Chennai Metro lines, a few parks along the Poonamallee High Road now under the management of the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation (CMRL) are being intruded into. Earlier the three parks were managed by the Chennai Corporation which closed down the parks one by one causing inconvenience to the residents. Thiru-vi-ka Park has now closed its doors for the public for Metro Rail work
