Good performance, Excellent expressions!


The 19th year Music and Dance Festival organised by Sri Ragam Fine Arts and Dr.Kamakshi Arakkattalai is going on from 13th to 26th December 2011 at T. N. Rajarathinam Auditorium located at  Durgabai Deshmukh Road, R.A. Puram, Chennai. On 18th December, Sowbarnika gave a good Bharathanatyam dance performance with excellent facial expressions. 

Her dance got a good applause from the audience.Sowbarnika is the disciple of Bharatha Sri Guru Suma Mani, Director of Bharataarpana, Chennai. Sowbarnika has won lots of appreciation for her dance performances held at leading Sabhas. 

She has been learning Bharathanatyam from the tender age of five from her Guru Suma. Sowbarnika parents Dr.S.Ramamurthy and Soundarya Ramamurthy (Senthil Nursing Home, Anna Nagar), encourages and supports her a lot. Sowbarnika is topper in academics and has won many laurels in several extracurricular activities. She has also won accolades for her oratorical skills. 

Helping people affected with Cancer


The Anna Nagar based Can-Stop (Cancer Support Therapy to Overcome Pain) is a community based, volunteer organization dedicated to helping people affected with cancer by providing counseling services in a holistic manner to patients, family and friends, conducting awareness programmes and screening camps through education and advocacy. CAN-STOP(cancer support therapy to overcome pain) has completed 13 years. We take this opportunity to share with you about our special Community Out-Reach Programme. 

This was started as a fitting tribute to Dr.S.Rangarajan who established Sundaram Medical Foundation in 1994 .CAN-STOP basic goal is to help people learn more about dealing with Cancer and cancer related problems. It is a Centre for counseling (information, advice, consolation, listening) for cancer-affected patients, their families, and friends.

Library facilities and programme for the whole family is being made available. CAN-STOP also organizes group discussion, with various therapy sessions, laughter, music and humor for patients and their families. Can Stop is working on a continuous basis with hospitals where the patients come from very low socio-economic background. CAN-STOP, a Centre for counseling information advice, consolation and listening for not only to the patients but also to their families and friends.

Health Awareness programme


The fifth International Digestive Endoscopy Workshop (DEW) 2011 was held  in Chennai recently. The special guest  for the event was  Governor of Tamil Nadu K Rosaiah. He stated that  corporate hospitals and state-of-the-art facilities in government hospitals in the State are on the rise. The Governor conferred the MedIndia Oration Award 2011 on Dr Christopher Khor, National University Hospital, Singapore, for his  contribution to the field of gastroenterology and endoscopy. 

He conferred Professional Excellence Awards on Dr J B Dilawari, United Kingdom, Dr  Ang Tiing Leong of Changi General Hospital and Dr Tan Kok Yang, Khoo Teck Paut of Singapore. Many poor and needy patients were offered free advanced endoscopic surgical treatment under DEW 2011 at the international live workshop.

Carnatic Music Competitions In Anna Nagar

December  is the month of festival.  The month is well known for the Carnatic music season and Christmas. The Anna nagar  rasikas enjoyed the season concerts at Asana Andiappan Yoga Center from 1st to 8th December 2011. 

The event was organised by Shi-Ba Sangeetha Sabha. The  sabha is the only one which  conducts  music season in Anna Nagar in December for 8 days . In connection with the 9th year music annual festival Shi-Ba Sangeetha Sabha conducted competition for music students and winners were given prizes on 1st and 8th December 2011.

This year Tanjore Kumar -mrudanga vidwan was awarded with '' Sangeetha Sahrudaya Seva Rathna Award along  with a citation and cash 5000rs and shawl was presented . Asana Andiappan Yoga Guru presided over the function and gave an enlighting speech as how Nadam and Yoga are the same. Maharajapuram Srinivasan inaugurated the function and Arjun Bharathi felicitated the award winner.

Human Rights Education Programme


Sri Krishnaswamy College for Women, Anna Nagar, joined hands with IARF –London(U.K.) , to conduct a 2-day Human Rights Education Programme on 8th & 9th December 2011, to educate select students  on the need for elimination  of all forms of religious intolerance and discrimination. The training was imparted in the form of  an interactive workshop.

On 10th December 2011, the International Human Rights Day  was celebrated with pomp and show, headed by Dr. Thomas Mathew, Chairman SACC (Kerala) & former International President, IARF. An inter-collegiate street play competition marked the occasion with active participation from many  colleges. Dr K. P.Malathi  Shri, Principal, SKCW welcomed the gathering .

The Role of IARF was traced  by Mr .K. Ramachandran, Facilitator, IARF-HRE ,Chennai & Vice President IARF- India Chapter. The Programme was co-ordinated effectively by Mrs. A. Shanthi Sathiamurthy & Miss Kalaivani, Faculty, Department of Commerce of the college...
